Study: NH Leads Nation in Birth Increases

Concord, NH – Bucking the national trend, New Hampshire saw a 7% increase in 2021 births compared to 2019 — the highest increase in the nation, according to a study by Pew Trusts.

“We’ve long known New Hampshire is the best state in the country to live, work, and raise a family,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “This latest study reinforces that, highlighting that people are moving to New Hampshire to start a family because of our low taxes, high quality of life, and safe communities."

According to the study, only 13 states in the country saw an increase in births between 2019 and 2021. Regionally, all six New England states saw increases, and New Hampshire was one of only two states with more births last year than in 2014 — the last time births rose nationally. During the pandemic, births declined in most states.
