When you talk about workforce, there are two main issues that come up – one is the opioid crisis and we’ve been really on the front lines there with our recovery friendly workplaces. You can’t just have a 28 day treatment then say “goodbye and good luck”, you need employment, family, and community. Thanks to federal grants we’ve been able to have tens of thousands of people in New Hampshire working in Recovery Friendly Workplaces. All of that conversation ties in well with justice reform. We need to give people a second chance, and allow them to have jobs when they get out. Due to our 2.4% unemployment we really need the workers – I have more jobs than I know what to do with. We may have all the jobs in the world, but when it comes to these topics we need to be working behind the wall. We need to provide recovery programs inside the walls so that people are ready to be productive in the workforce when they come out so that they hit the ground running.
