A Budget That Works for New Hampshire

In his budget proposal, Governor Sununu is supplementing current funding with additional capital. With $64 million for school building aid, the Governor is seeking to help property-tax-poor towns that can’t raise the necessary money on their own. In the proposal, the Governor is also increasing special education funding by nearly 20% - an action that has not been done in nearly a decade. There will also be property tax relief from funding for roads and bridges, drinking water systems, and $30 million in school infrastructure grants to name a few. These initiatives will put cash back in the hands of the towns, giving them more financial flexibility thus allowing them to make necessary investments. The idea is that there is local control and that people can decide how much to put into their town budget and services at town meetings.
