  Gov. Lynch and Executive Council Recognize Polly Johnson of Concord as September´s New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month
 
   
  CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council have recognized Polly Johnson of Concord as September´s New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month. Gov. Lynch presented her with a commendation yesterday morning at a ceremony in the State House.

Gov. Lynch partnered with VolunteerNH! to create the New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month awards. The honorees are selected on a rotating basis by Executive Council district by VolunteerNH!.

"New Hampshire´s tradition of citizen involvement is one of our state´s most cherished attributes. As Governor, I want to give those efforts more recognition - to encourage more people to get involved and to help preserve that tradition of civic engagement that makes New Hampshire so special," Gov. Lynch said.

Johnson was chosen for her long involvement in the Pierce Brigade.

Nominations for the monthly awards are currently being accepted and will continue to be accepted throughout the year. Nominees will be considered for the New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month Award and for a category award at the annual Spirit of New Hampshire Awards. A Commendation

POLLY B. JOHNSON
SEPTEMBER 2006 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

WHEREAS, Polly B. Johnson is a lifetime, honorary member of the Pierce Brigade; and

WHEREAS, Polly B. Johnson helped form the Pierce Brigade in 1966 when an area in Concord was slated for urban renewal; and

WHEREAS, Polly B. Johnson assisted the Pierce Brigade with its campaign to save the only house in Concord that Franklin and Jane Pierce owned, which was in danger of being demolished; and

WHEREAS, As a result of Polly B. Johnson´s work with the Pierce Brigade and the state´s cooperation, the Pierce house was moved to its present site, 14 Horseshoe Pond Lane, in Concord´s historic district; and

WHEREAS, Polly B. Johnson has dedicated more than 40 years of service to the many efforts and initiatives of the Pierce Brigade;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN H. LYNCH, GOVERNOR of the State of New Hampshire, and the Executive Council, in cooperation with Volunteer NH!, do hereby name Polly B. Johnson as the September 2006 Volunteer of the Month for her many contributions to his community and the citizens of our state.
