CONCORD - Following the vote in the House of Representatives on HB 1633, Governor Maggie Hassan released the following statement:
"While the House was unfortunately unable to reach a majority consensus in favor of HB 1633, I would like to thank Representative Dick Ames and the Gaming Regulatory Oversight Authority for their diligent work in crafting this strong legislation, which nearly all have agreed included the strongest possible regulatory structure for a casino. I also thank Representative Kathi Rogers and members of the Fair Deal Caucus for their advocacy in favor of investing in New Hampshire's economic future.
"Despite today's vote, I continue to believe that developing our own plan for one high-end casino is the best course of action for investing in the priorities that are critical to long-term economic growth. Soon, we will all see the impact of Massachusetts casinos right across our border in the form of lost revenue and potential social costs. One way or another, we will need to recognize what is happening around us and take action to protect the interests of New Hampshire's people and economy."
